While Pengda came packed in my suitcase with his favorite foods (tater tots and sriracha) I was worried that he wasn’t getting enough protein. Feeding him sardines seemed like a good direction to try. And he went for it, for awhile…
Then he saw me making my usual morning smoothie. Through ear waggling, flipper (wing? arm?) gestures and enthusiastic two foot taps (Pengda’s yes) I determined that he preferred his sardines in smoothie form. Yes, it is as gross as you might imagine. Here’s the recipe. Omit the sardines for something suitable for humans.
- 1/2 c almond milk
- 1/2 c water
- 1 T almond butter
- 1/2 avocado 🥑
- 1 T chia and/or flax
- 1 scoop of protein powder
- Tin of sardines (hold the salt if you are adding this optional and gross ingredient)
Blend and serve with a wide straw.
It’s a good thing this weird creature is cute…and keeps the house vacuumed.
